CREW
DIRECTOR
George Markakis was born in Crete, Greece and studied cinematography in Athens and New York - the last 8 years he is based in Berlin.
“India Blues open the circle of my experience in Berlin. EX closes the cycle. Both are deeply and delicately psychological; both depict my world in Berlin.” - GM
In 2013, George Markakis directed “India Blues.” A remarkably edgy, bold and passionate love story between two young men and the complex love relationship that evolves in front of the camera in real time.
It has been internationally acclaimed as a landmark narrative depicting the 8 core emotions that run through a relationship – lust, pain, happiness, jealousy, attraction, peacefulness, love and anger.
The film hit, Cork film festival, Athens International Film Festival, Huston Film Festival, the Tokyo Uplink opening, and the Tel Aviv Cinematheque. It has been distributed in the USA, Germany, France, Japan, Greece, UK, Ireland, and Israel.
5 years later, George’s pen has re-sparked with a new film treatment that contains the fabric for an insightful, provocative and retrospective narrative into the decadence, and consequent rabbit hole of a club night .
Inspired by the film, Victoria, by Sebastian Schipper as well as the films of Tarkovsky, EX reveals a night of reckless abandon propagating the main character Diana to enter a kaleidoscope world where he encounters characters who probe the essence of his deconstructed world and childhood. “The film is not just about Berlin and the cool kids. It has something more to say about the city, about Berlin. The dark side. It’s the whole world of the party. Faking reality and illusion. It’s a game between different realities.” GM
“We have reached those days when we can endure neither our vices nor their remedies.” - GM
